   It is a service used by Apple where they send a text to this number to activate iMessage and FaceTime, you can disable iMessage in settings if you do not want to be charged but it counts as a normal text and July do get warned about it when inserting a new sim in your phone.

   You are right. I have been charged too and i did some investigating and found this thread directly from apple, as i am an iphone user. Beware.

   I was visiting Pakistan recently where I used UK iphone with a local simcard. There was NO record of this UK number 07786205094 in my phone; neither as a number stored/dialled/call received or Text received/Sent. On certain suspicion I requested and received detailed statement of my use of the phone from my local service provider; there it was! Four text messages were sent over a ten days period from my iphone, an acknowledging text message received within 12 seconds of the message going out.. NO content.. it was a blank message OUT and IN. I have done my research and I think this number belongs to an Intelligence Agency keeping a tab on the movements of your phone/you. My suspicion is that first agency could be 1. GCHQ 2. CIA 3. Israeli Agencies and 4. Russian Agencies. This is the only plausible explanation I can offer as apart from 'intelligence gathering' there appears to be no other explanation. When you dial this number you get a message that the number dialled ‘does not exist’. I am from a law enforcement background and I standby my explanation about this UK mobile number.

   According to my phone bill, my phone has SMS sent to this number. It must be a scam because I do not even know this number and thus never would send SMS to it. Besides, I'm actually an SMS Flat, but this is not covered in this text.

   Is there any reason whatsoever why the intelligence services might be interested in knowing more about you? This is what it is... they have implanted a code into your phone whereby your phone will send a text message that would only be recorded in your service provider's detailed usage statement. It will not show in your device. If you want to avoid this you need to frequently change your mobile phone and never ever click on anything you do not recognise. I know of no 'antidote' for this infection. Remember; intelligence services are like cancer, if they get into your life, you'll just have to put up with it until they decide to back off and spend tax payer’s money on more worthwhile project; there is no door you can knock.
