Anon 13 reported SMS Message with the number 08456021111 as Trustworthy number
Just had another audio text to my landline via this number. Someone I know clicked on my landline number by mistake when sending the text. It keeps happening. Info that I have got to know about this service copied below.
This number will keep calling your landline because someone has sent a text to it. The system is attempting to relay an audio translation. This is the BT owned text to speech to landline translation and relay service number used by most phone operators and many businesses and organisations. It has been operating for nearly 2 decades. Be aware that the system can’t work with answerphones and will keep on and on trying to deliver the message until it times out and deletes the message after 24 hours, or is blocked, or is answered. The system is free to answer. It only works on landlines. You can call back within the 24 hour period to retrieve your message. There is a business rate charge of 5p per minute plus your network connection charge to call back
When you pick up the call, the system will tell you the originating number and then give you options to press buttons on your phone. IGNORE THE OPTIONS. Just hang on and the computer will read out the message when it runs out of options. That is the safest way to pick up your message – no one should press a button on your phone just because a computer tells you. Be aware the system is not perfect. The system has problems translating long complex numbers like order/reference numbers or txt abbreviations and can’t handle emojis/links/attachments which could cause the entire message to fail. Scam texts can’t be filtered out but the scam number to report is the originating number not this relay number.
This number will NOT call between 11pm and 7am. It is possible to change the curfew time or block this number at source by calling 08005875252. You can also do this by sending a text to your own landline (also a good way to check/test/verify this number). This number will call. It is free to answer. It will tell you your mobile number (that confirms the call is genuine) and then the options will include blocking or changing the curfew time. Think before blocking genuine business numbers
If you want to block this number, make sure there is no chance that you could get a text to your landline. Such texts could be from friends or relatives sending texts to landline by mistake. Texts could also be from any businesses or organisations that have your landline number as the contact and many of these will send automated text messages to the contact number. These could include gas, electricity, water, phone/broadband providers, school, work, NHS, pharmacy, dentist, optician, insurance company, and any other company or organisation given your landline number as the contact number. And ONLY give your mobile number when making appointments or ordering stuff for delivery or collection. I’ve had audio text messages to my landline from many of these sources over the years with no problems. Also be aware that there are parts of the UK with patchy mobile reception and there are some people who do nor own a mobile so they have no option but to give a landline number as the contact.
A google search of this number and checking ALL the results will provide more info. Also check the banner post above. -

Meant to give this a 1 rating as safe. Just don't press any button on your phone as requested. Just hang on.
This text audio translation service will not filter out scam texts but you will be told the originating number when you pick up

Anon 13 reported British Telecommunication (BT) with the number 08456021111 as Trustworthy number
This number is owned and operated by BT Openreach and is used by most phone operators to relay audio translations of text messages someone sent to your landline. Unless you change the settings this number will keep calling between 7am and 10pm until it is answered or it times out and deletes the message after 24 hours
The computer will tell you to press 1 to pick up the message after telling you the originating phone number. Never press any button. Just hang on and the free to answer message will eventually be read out.
Try testing the system by sending a text to your landline. That's what these calls sound like if genuine.
Be aware that the BT computer does have limitations. If can't work with answerphones and will struggle with txt tlk lolx xx lol ;-( emojis links and long complex numbers -

Text message came through to my landline. This number called, computer voice said it was BT, told I had a text message and told me the number that sent it. Hung up at that point but checking my contacts list as this number called again. Same message but picked out the number as someone I know. Pressed 1 this time. Friend sent message to my landline by mistake. The computer read it out. Not with BT so a bit confused. although I know Openreach look after the phone lines into my house. I think this must rate as trustworthy as introduction clear and can be checked.

BT text to landline audio translation service. Very annoying as keeps ringing until you answer and clicks off when answer phone clicks in. Answered after ignoring several calls. Suspicious as voice told me to press 1 to hear message as this usually means connecting to a scam premium rate number but recognised the originating mobile number. Relative sent text to my landline by mistake. Hope scammers don't spoof this number!!

This is a legitimate BT service, it's automated to read aloud text messages sent to your land-line number. You can control this by calling freephone 0800 587 5252 (yes, it's free). For those who say "I'm not on BT" you're missing the point, you don't have to be a BT customer, it's a free service. Just call freephone 0800 587 5252 (yes, for free! ) then listen to the options. Simples! -

This number called my house phone today. The computer voice said it was BT and I had a message. Not with BT and was about to hang up when the sender number was read out. I thought I recognised it so I hung on. Was told to press buttons on my phone but didn't as not sure. The message was then read out. It was from a friend. Called him and seems he sent to he text to my house phone by mistake. I suppose BT sent the audio translation because it was delivered via the Openreach landline infrastructure.

Beats me how anyone can decide a caller is a scam without finding out what the call is about! This number will keep calling over a 24 hour period as it is attempting to relay an audio translation of a text some guy sent to your landline. After that time the message will be deleted from the system. You cannot be scammed by picking up the phone and listening. Plenty of info around that explains what to do next if you don't want to press any number.

BT will call you using this number to tell you that an SMS (text message) has been sent to your landline. Most, perhaps all, of the time this will happen because you requested the SMS to be sent to your landline number. So I don't understand why a lot of commentators seem to be upset about it. It's just one of BT's services, so get over it folks.l

Received a message through this service about a parcel force delivery asking me to press 1. I made no such order. I subsequently called Parcelforce amd they informed me that this is a common scam to get people to "confirm" theor details to a fraudster.
Anon 13 replied 10/2/23, 7:59 PMParcel Force do text ahead of deliveries to give an ETA of when the parcel is expected to arrive at its destination. If the contact number is a landline, the text will arrive in audio format via this BT owned text to speech to landline translation and relay service number.
Delivery scam texts will always have a link to click on. On a landline?
Also, the safety advice posted about this free to answer service tells you NOT to press 1 just because a computer voice asks you to do. Hang on and say and do nothing and the message will be read out.
If you get a scam text via this fully automated service, the scam number to report will be the originating number not this relay number. The system will always tell you the originating number of the text when you pick up.

This number is not safe and the green poster knows it. Its very dangerous, scammers are not only spoofing the messaging service to get you to press 1 for a cost trap of being forwarded to a scammer. They are actually able to come through this number as a call and pretent to be from BT and attempt to get details. If you block this service you wont miss any messages because nobody ever has any ! The fact that this green posting grifter sits day and night, 7 days a week 365 days a year trying to get people to think that this number is safe through bare face lies says it all !

Most phone providers use this BT service to ensure text messages sent to landlines get delivered. There are several techy companies offering this text audio translation service to clients and the phone operators will not use this BT service if it was inherently unsafe.
This is a fully automated service. The top rated post on this feed will tell you how to block this number if that's what you want but think very carefully before blocking genuine business numbers unless there is no chance that you will get genuine calls from that number.
Blocking numbers will not reduce the scam calls and texts we all get. Scammers will just keep using any one of millions of computer generated fake or spoofed numbers. Scam numbers and the scam details should be reported by text to '7726' as well as on number checking sites like this one. (This number is just a relay number. The originating number will be told to you by the computer when you pick up the phone). This was not automated text it was an Indian sounding women saying she was from BT and that she was calling because there was a problem with our internet speed. I said the internet was fine - she hung up.
If it was BT - rude! but like some have said, if the number was cloned, could be trouble.Anon 13 replied 8/2/23, 11:54 AMThis number is a genuine automated messaging service. It calls landlines with an audio translation of a text message someone sent to it. You will never speak to a real person when you answer the call. It will only call landlines. It is not a scam number per se. Most calls will be genuine text messages that someone sent to a landline. Spoofed genuine business numbers are a serious and dangerous problem that this government must tackle - one of its many roundtoits. -
