   They called me about my solar panels. I told them I don't have any and they hung up. Sounds like a scam to me.

   I also got a call from them. I have solar panels, so was interested in their free maintenance check. They knew my name and address but didn't appear to know how many panels I had or when they were installed, so I was slightly suspicious and asked how they had my details. I was told that my original installer had probably ceased trading and had sold on their database. I'd never had any problems with my panels, so had no reason to contact my installer and therefore didn't know if they were still in business. I then told the caller how many panels I had and when they were installed and was then offered an appointment for this free maintenance check. Nobody turned up, and when I tried the number I just got a recorded message asking me to hold for one of their agents. I then rang my original installer to check they were still in business (which they are) and was told about the scam. Basically, how it works is that they do this check, then claim there are all sorts of problems which they can rectify (at a price), but in reality, there are no problems. The reason I was asked how long I'd had the panels, and why they didn't turn up is that the installation is still under my 10-year warranty. So even if my original installer was no longer trading the warranty was still good and the scammers would be wasting their time!
