It's a scam. I had the same experience described in the other comments. A guy told me he is Officer Michael Vaughan, from HRMC, Ministry of Justice. They first called from 07485553300, and then from 02033343555. He has Indian accent. They told me I have to pay taxes £1987 in taxes or I would get arrested today.

Received call from this number. Caller pretended to be from HMRC telling that my taxes are pending to be paid. When i said to send tax documents to my home address he did not reply. He was continuously threatening me of freezing my account and police action.

This is a joke, I’m covid positive struggling at home. Received a call from this number and panicked really though I knew my employer pay my taxes. The guy named John David was speaking as if he is from HmRC and the calling during waiting time says HMRC. When husband said this is prank call, I asked him to identify himself and I was keep asking questions he got irritated and said you are not cooperating and we may need to send officers with warrant. I said please do so we will better speak with officers. It’s such a annoying people are using others weaknesses. Can HMRC look into this? Can the officers not look into this? For the interest of public, even if it’s from HMRC ask them to send a notification first and tell them you can’t pay straight away. I don’t think none of the separate things ask us to pay immediately definitely we will have 2 to 3 months time. So be vigilant please. Thanks!

Had a call about me owing money 1923GBP from MIKE FOSTER. long story short it was all very similar to the recent comments. They even asked me to go to the bank and pay it now...it was 0834 for god sake. DONT FALL FOR IT. AND TELL ALL FAMILY AND FRIENDS. HMRC wont call you in this manner.

I had received a call from Ministry of Justice (0203 3334 3555) on Saturday the 20th March 21 at 11:47 am.
A guy by the name of Charles Morgan shocked me by saying that I had underpaid my tax and £1867 and that apparently they have been attempting for contact me without success.
He further explained that they think that I am evading tax and an arrest warrant has been issued under my name and my home, bank account and everything will be freeze and that my driving licence and passport will be seized. I was baffled and nearly felt like having a heart attack that was unbelievable as a full time employee my taxes are paid accordingly and I do not owe anything and have not done anything illegal to get such a call.
I was even given a court case reference to say that my case is within criminal court and he kind of quoted even some references that I have breached. I was so taken aback and stressed out of my head.
I was forced to pay this sum otherwise I will get arrested straight away that is how I have been harassed. I was on the verge of breaking down and I told him that I do not have that kind of money for payment straight away and I need to seek for financial help from family and friends.
This guy then asked me what reason I will give to my family and tried to convince me that I should not tell them that it was for the tax evasion reason and rather for personal emergency use.
By then I started doubting the call by not being genuinely from HMRC and I started questioning him about the reason why I was not being given notice officially by HMRC if I had underpaid my taxes.
I was trying my best to cut the call but he kept insisting that he will transfer me to the head office to make this payment even it is by instalments so that they can remove that charge against me.
I then cut the call myself and googled this number to find more of what was happening, I spoke to friends as well who as well confirm with me that this is a scammer call.
This is a very serious case as people are getting conned by such scammers and I could hae easily fallen victim for this. They use harassment, fears and all sorts of tactics to rip people off.
I would very much appreciate that this kind of calls to be investigated into further and prevent people from being victimisedColin replied 1/22/22, 10:40 AMI had the exact same experience, I cut the call after seeing that their account name and account number gave a warning from my bank that they didn't match and that the money could not be returned if I transferred to them. Got a call at 7:45 am in the morning saying that I owe some amount in taxes. I wondered that how can I owe an amount when I landed just 4 days back. Further, the ministry office was not open at 7:45 am, so from where were they makimg the call? My god ! these scammers can do anything in order to steal money. Dont fall for this trap. IT'S A SCAM.
