Said I'd never set up Amazon Prime and he immediately hung up on me -

Caller claimed to be from Open Reach on behalf of Virgin, BT and basically all internet providers and said internet was going to be taken down in next 24 hours because of suspiscious activity. Did not hang around for more drivel. He called back 3 times until I blocked the number.

As I always do with these numbers which effectively stops them dead, be polite, answer as if you are a big multi national company and try to sell them something.
They can't deal with businesses, even had one apologise and say I'll not be called again. -

Seems to be some jerk with an Eastern accent trying to make money on fake accident claim scam.
Twice asked "where did you get my number?" (it's ex-directory ...) - then he just hung up.
Seems to be the kind of low-life that needs to:
1. Get a proper job;

First thing, the STD for Bedford is correct, 01234, but surely by continuing in numerical order would be the the most desired number in the UK? Big banks, airlines, the BBC, or Government would have paid hundreds of thousands for this number? It could be an alternative number for treble nine. DONT trust this number

fed up of this tosser constantly calling it was about 1630 on 22/12/14 and had at least 2 very day for last fortnight. It's about time the governments got all calls traced and hang the these thieving baskets. Had my bank account attacked a couple of weeks ago probably from a similar hacking event. Shouldn't have numbers you can't trace.

They left a voicemail message for the first time today and claimed to be working for a credit card company chasing debts and that the consequences would be 'very serious' if I 'actively ignored' their attempts to contact me.

Asian person calls me almost every day from this number - when I ask what they want they either go off on a tangent to something completely random or hang up. Getting really annoying now. Is there anything one can do about this?

My aunt got talking to this person, I was in the other room listening in. He got cut off and called back repeatedly about 2 or 3 times. I said to give me the phone so I could talk to them.
Ended up chatting to the Indian who claimed to be called Orlando but after asking for his real full name (that I still don't believe) Mr Shams Dabrez from perfect preference started on asking / continuing the questions he had begun with my aunt. We went from talking quite truthfully to getting short and silly answers.
Whãt is the name of the washing machine brand you have? Well I can't afford a washing machine thanks, I do all my washing by hand in the bath.
In fact I can't remember what I said to him as it was extreme quick fire questions and stupid answers...

these scammers call two or three times a day, sometimes the phone is silent when I press answer other times an Indian Pakistani sounding clown with an English sounding name talks some crap, when asked who he is he hangs up, my number is and has always been ex directory, and I have registered with the telephone preference service(which is a complete waste of time). any advice would be appreciated.

The phone rings,I look at the number that is calling ,if I don't recocnise it the answerphone deals with it, I just delete them all at the end of each day.woodcrafts replied 1/14/20, 10:22 PMThe telephone preference service can only be applied to calls originating in the UK. They have no control of international calls. And ex-directory is also a UK function. ALL phone numbers are available on telephone number databases which can be purchased by anyone. In fact the flag showing 'Ex-directory' status makes you more of a target. And these calls are made from outside the UK with the caller number 'spoofed' to make it look like it came from Bedford. That number is actually a theatre company! -

He had an obvious Indian accent and the call sounded as is it came from abroad but his name was Steven Foster - seriously? He told me an old email address of mine had been used to scam people. Gave me the name of the hacker and described the scam. He got me to type 'netstat' and 'tracert mycomputer.com' in the command prompt in order to look for Foreign locations (hackers) that were piggy-backing on my internet connection and seeing everything on my computer. Then he told me that any foreign locations listed which had a level over 10 could not be got rid of by me and I had to connect to his server. So I asked him to call me back in 20 minutes so I could check him out. He got really pushy so I said that made me more suspicious. The thing is I really believed him until it came to giving him control of my computer and I reckon a lot of people are going to fall for this scam.

An Indian woman called "Christina" rang and said she was from Microsoft Security. I was told that my computer had been hacked and emails were being sent out from my computer demanding money. She wanted to access my computer to put this right or my system would be shut down?!

They lied and said they were calling from Virgin Media. They asked for someone who lived at the address but was not the account holder. They knew some basic information on our household. They tried to get us to a computer by saying there was spam and viruses coming from our IP and was acting suspicious when couldn't answer direct questions like 'what's your name'. They are still calling!

I'm sure that's not his name. He had a very strong Indian accent. He started by telling me my computer had been hacked. I asked him what operating system it was using and he said it was an Apple Mac, which I've never owned. When I told him that, he called me "bloody liar" and that I would be in a lot of trouble as this conversation was being recorded. I remained silent while he got more abusive and eventually he hung up. Obviously a scam of some sort.
